Michigan DHHS Workgroup Recommends Retaining Mental Health Carve-Out System
A workgroup formed by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has recommended that the state retain the existing regional mental health carve-out and test new coordination models in regional pilots. Per its key recommendation, the legislature would retain the existing carve-out with the regional mental health authorities.
The workgroup recommends authorizing regional pilot programs and demonstrations to test new care coordination or integrated care models, with future plans for integration of behavioral health services being guided by the results of the pilots and demonstrations.
