Michigan Corrections To Redefine Recidivism

On March 30, 2017, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder signed a package of bills aimed at modernizing Michigan’s criminal justice system by updating parole and probation policies, with a key focus on reducing recidivism rates. The 18-bill package also includes provisions for programs specifically for young adult offenders and new policies for medically frail inmates.

Going forward, the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) will measure recidivism using three separate measures: re-arrest recidivism, re-conviction recidivism, and re-incarceration recidivism for any felony or misdemeanor offense or a probation or parole violation.
