Michigan Considering Medicaid Managed Long-Term Services & Supports
A provision in Michigan’s 2017-2018 budget called for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to explore implementation of managed Medicaid long-term services and supports (MLTSS). The provision was a statement in section 1857 of the budget, directing MDHHS to explore MLTSS by July 1, 2018. The state’s public LTSS system—nursing homes and home-and community-based services (HCBS)—is valued at $2.8 billion annually, and represents 15% of the $18.4 billion 2017 Medicaid health services budget.
