Michigan Awards 11 Medicaid Managed Care Contracts
On October 13, 2015, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announced its selections for Medicaid managed care contracts for health maintenance organizations (HMOs) to serve the state’s 10 regions. The contracts begin January 1, 2016 and run for at least five years, followed by three one-year extension periods. The total contract cost for the initial five years is estimated at $35 billion. The 11 selected plans will enroll about 1.7 Michigan Medicaid beneficiaries. Before the contracts are finalized, they must be approved by the State Administrative Board in mid-November.
