Mental Health Issues Persist For Adolescents Years After Gastric Bypass Surgery
About one-third of Swedish adolescents with obesity who underwent gastric bypass surgery had mental health problems five years after the operation, despite improvements in weight. This remained true even if those individuals were on psychiatric medications. The proportion of adolescents prescribed psychiatric drugs was similar between those who had the surgery and those in a control group who received conventional obesity treatment.
