Medicare Telehealth Claims Rose From 13,000 Per Week In March To 1.4 Million Claims Per Week In April
During the week ended April 25, 2020, Medicare received 1.4 million claims for services provided by telehealth. During the week ended March 7, 2020, before the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic national emergency, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) received about 13,000 claims for telehealth services.
According to a CMS spokesperson, the number of Medicare beneficiaries receiving telehealth services increased rapidly, from the 13,000 per week before the national emergency, to 1.1 million during the first week of April, just a month later.
