Medicare To Implement Home Health Value-Based Purchasing
Medicare plans to launch a value-based purchasing model for home health provider organizations in nine states starting January 1, 2016. Currently, Medicare uses a prospective payment system (PPS) in which home health provider organizations receive a prospective payment based on a national standardized 60-day episode for all covered home health services. Under the Home Health Value-Based Purchasing (HHVBP) model, all Medicare-certified home health provider organizations in the nine states would submit quality data and compete for payment adjustments to their PPS reimbursements based on quality performance.
