Medicare Bundled Payments For Opioid Addiction Treatment To Start January 2020
Medicare plans to create a bundled episode of care for management and counseling services provided by opioid treatment programs (OTPs). The monthly bundle will include overall management, care coordination, individual and group psychotherapy, and addiction treatment counseling.
The plans were released in “Proposed Policy, Payment, and Quality Provisions Changes to the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule for Calendar Year 2020.” The section about the proposed OTP bundled payment program was among the provisions required by the Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities Act (SUPPORT Act), which became law in October 2018.
