Medicare Advantage Value-Based Insurance Design To Add Benefits For People With Dementia
On August 10, 2016, the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that for 2018, its Medicare Advantage Value-Based Insurance Design (VBID) model will include benefits for dementia. Under VBID models, the plan can offer targeted benefits and revise cost sharing requirements for members diagnosed with one of the six original qualifying conditions, and now dementia.
Currently Medicare Advantage rules require that plan benefits and cost sharing be the same for all enrollees. Via the VBID model, the participating plans will test whether offering supplemental benefits or reduce cost-sharing encourages beneficiaries with the specific chronic . . .
