Medicaid Funded $134 Billion, 61% Of U.S. Long-Term Services & Supports Spending In 2012

In federal fiscal year 2012, Medicaid funded an estimated 61% of total national spending on long-term services and supports (LTSS) for individuals with functional impairments, disabilities, or illness leading to inability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs) or instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs). Total LTSS spending in 2012 totaled $219.9 billion; Medicaid paid $134.1 billion for institutional care or home- and community-based services (HCBS).
