Massachusetts Medicaid To Expand Addiction Treatment Benefit

The Massachusetts Medicaid program, MassHealth, as part of its 1115 Medicaid renewal and amendment, has proposed enhancing Medicaid addiction disorder services to promote treatment and recovery to address the state’s opioid crisis. Currently, MassHealth covers some, but not all of the Medicaid continuum of addiction treatment; transitional support services are covered only for certain populations, and residential services are not covered. The state plans to increase treatment services and expand access to services, such as 24-hour community based services, medication assisted treatment, care management, and other recovery support. Capacity will expand by nearly 400 beds in fiscal year . . .
