Maryland To Re-Bundle Medicaid Reimbursement For Methadone Maintenance & Drug Counseling In March 2017

On September 9, 2016, the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) proposed rebundling Medicaid reimbursement for methadone maintenance and outpatient drug counseling. The goal is to allow opioid treatment programs (OTPs) to bill for outpatient counseling separately as clinically necessary. The proposal sets the OTP methadone maintenance reimbursement rate at $63 per week and at $56 per week for buprenorphine maintenance. The bundled rate for buprenorphine is $ 7.00 lower because the cost of the drug is reimbursed separately.

Currently Maryland Medicaid reimburses OTPs for methadone maintenance through a bundled rate of $81.60 per week per person . . .
