MACPAC Recommends Congress Extend Funding For CHIP Program Through 2022
In January 2017, the Medicaid and State Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC) released a report to Congress, recommending a funding extension for the CHIP program through 2022 to prevent potential loss of insurance for children. In fiscal year 2015, approximately 8.4 million children were enrolled in CHIP. While CHIP is permanently authorized, it is not permanently funded. Without an extension, states will not receive new federal funds for the program beyond September 30, 2017.
