Magnet Schools & Charter Schools Perform Better Than Public Schools In LA Unified School District
Student performance on the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) new student assessment tool, Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA), revealed that performance was better among students at magnet schools and charter schools than students at traditional schools. The SBA evaluates student proficiency in applying English language arts and math skills covered in the Common Core curriculum. The SBA tests measure critical thinking, analytical writing, problem solving, and subject area knowledge to provide teachers feedback needed to improve instruction.
At LAUSD magnet schools, which are specialized programs for students run by LAUSD staff, 55% of students met or exceeded English language standards . . .
