Lifetime long-term care (LTC) costs in the United States are currently at $172,000 per person in care. Nationwide, in 2016, total lifetime LTC insurance claims costs are estimated at $2.8 trillion. By 2047, total LTC costs in the U.S. are projected to reach $5.6 trillion.
These cost estimates are inclusive of paid LTC services from 2000 through 2015 for a person whose level of disability is consistent with dependence in at least two activities of daily living, or who has a cognitive impairment. The cost estimates do not account for the costs of informal care . . .
