Life Expectancy For The U.S. Population Declines For Third Year In A Row
In 2017, the life expectancy for the U.S. population declined to 78.6 years, down from 78.7 years in 2016. Life expectancy first declined in 2014, falling from 78.9 years, to 78.8 years in 2015. This was the first drop since 1999. Since then, life expectancy at birth has continued to decline for the past three years. For males, life expectancy changed from 76.2 in 2016 to 76.1 in 2017. For females, life expectancy remained the same at 81.1. The 10 leading causes of death in 2017 remained the same as in 2016 . . .
