Judge Grants Preliminary Approval For D.C. Child Welfare Settlement Agreement Exit Within Two Years
On August 19, 2020, a federal judge granted preliminary approval for the settlement of the 1989 LaShawn A. v. Bowser class-action lawsuit against the District of Columbia Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA), which means that CFSA could exit court oversight within two years. The class members have been notified, and they have been offered an opportunity to comment in advance of a fairness hearing.
