The Iowa Department of Education is making changes to special education requirements that were ordered by an administrative judge in March 2017. Starting with the 2018-2019 school year, the state will no longer require that students have a “significant or severe discrepancy” in school performance and age or grade-based standards in order to provide the student with special education services.
