Hospitalization In The First Year Of Dialysis Predictive Of Poor Consumer Outcomes
Hospitalization in the first year of dialysis is predictive of poor outcomes, such as higher risk of death, a higher risk of re-hospitalization, and lesser chance of receiving a kidney transplant. Compared to those not hospitalized in the first year of dialysis, those with one readmission, and those with multiple readmissions, had progressively increased risk of poor outcomes, as follows:
- Among those with no hospital admissions in the first year of dialysis, in the second year, about 1.6% got a transplant, 10% died, and 33.8% were hospitalized.
