Between 2013 & 2014, 50% Increase In Antipsychotic Prescriptions For Children Age 2 & Younger
Almost 20,000 antipsychotic medication prescriptions were written in 2014 for U.S. children two years old and younger, a 52% jump from almost 13,000 in 2013. The prescriptions included risperidone (commonly known as Risperdal), quetiapine (Seroquel) and other medications. Risperidone prescriptions increased from 3,427 in 2013 to 4,585 in 2014, while quetiapine increased from 3,271 to 4,868. The total number of prescriptions for all medications for U.S. children under the age of two increased by 6.5% from 526,340 in 2013 to 560,577 in 2014. During this same time period, the . . .
