Illinois Medicaid Launches Redesigned Mandatory Managed Care Program Statewide

On January 1, 2018, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) launched the state’s newly redesigned statewide mandatory Medicaid managed care program, HealthChoice Illinois. The managed care program redesign reduced the number of Medicaid managed care plans operating in the state from 12 to 7, and consolidated the state’s three managed care programs into one program. It also expanded the reach of mandatory managed care enrollment from 30 counties to all 102 counties of the state and incorporated services for special needs children and foster care youth into managed care.
