HHS Recommends Prescribing Or Co-Prescribing Naloxone To People At High Risk For Opioid Overdose

The federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recommends that clinical professionals prescribe or co-prescribe naloxone to people prescribed opioids who are at high risk for opioid overdose. Naloxone is a compound that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. It can be administered via nasal spray, injection, or auto-injection. Co-prescribe means to prescribe in conjunction with additional medication.
