South Carolina Receives HHS Approval For Religious Exemption To Foster & Adoptive Parent Selection
On January 23, 2019, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster announced that the federal Administration for Children and Families (ACF) and the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) had approved the state’s request for an exemption from federal regulations preventing faith-based foster care provider organizations from selecting foster parents on the basis of religion. ACF granted a waiver allowing Miracle Hill Foster Care, a faith-based foster care provider organization, to keep its license and continue serving nearly 200 foster children and more than 230 foster families in Greenville, Pickens, and Spartanburg counties.
