Health care professionals should promote diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) services as part of comprehensive diabetes medical care, according to a consensus statement on diabetes treatment. Participation in DSMES can improve health outcomes, increase self-efficacy and behavioral changes, and reduce diabetes-related stress.
