Health care costs for transition-age youth (TAY) ages 14 to 25 diagnosed with autism were higher than costs for TAY diagnosed with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and for TAY in the general population. Costs for TAY with autism were lower than costs for TAY with diabetes mellitus. Crude mean annual per person health care costs for the four TAY populations (autism, ASD, diabetes, and general) ranged from $2,016.57 for the TAY general population to $9,725.80 for TAY with diabetes.
