Hawaii To Allow Public-Private Partnerships To Privatize Maui Region Hospitals
On May 4, 2015, the Hawaii legislature passed a bill that will allow the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, and Board of the Maui Regional System Board to privatize one or more of the facilities of the Maui Regional System by contracting with a private non-profit management entity located in Hawaii or other states. The Maui hospitals are Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula Hospital and Clinic, and Lanai Community Hospital.
The legislation, House Bill (HB) 1075, will allow proposals from any non-profit health care organization, local or from the continental United States, to bid to operate the Maui facilities . . .
