On September 27, 2016, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission announced that the Third Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the FTC had a high likelihood of prevailing in its effort to block a proposed hospital merger between Pennsylvania-based Penn State Hershey Medical Center and Pinnacle Health System. The appeals court ordered the district court to enter a preliminary injunction blocking the merger. Hershey Medical Center and Pinnacle Health are reviewing the decision to determine their next course of action.
