On January 18, 2018, four large non-profit hospital systems— Intermountain Health Care, Ascension, SSM Health, and Trinity Health— announced plans to create a not-for-profit generic drug company. To create the company, the four hospital systems will consult with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The goal is to improve the supply of generic drugs. The four hospital system partners intend that the drug company will seek manufacturing approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
