Federal Prison In Massachusetts Tests New Memory Disorder Unit
A new type of Memory Disorder Unit (MDU) is being tested at a federal prison medical center in Massachusetts; it is the first unit within the federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) system that is specifically geared toward housing and treating inmates with dementia. The specialized housing unit is based on a nursing home model; it houses 36 inmates diagnosed with dementia and in the middle stages of the disease.
