The average age of family caregivers was 65.8 years in 2016, according to an evaluation of the National Family Caregiver Support Program. However, the average age of caregivers varied by the length of caregiving. The majority (33%) of caregivers for a long-term episode (lasting two or more years) were between ages 65 and 74. The majority (28%) of caregivers for a short-term episode (lasting less than two years) were between ages 55 and 64.
