Families Of Children With Special Health Care Needs More Likely To Have Housing Instability
Families of children under 4 years of age with special health care needs (SHCN) face economic challenges, including major medical and educational expenses, limiting parental work hours to care for the child, and increased family risks for material hardships — especially housing instability. Compared to families without children with SHCNs, families of young children with SHCNs who did not receive child Supplemental Security Income (SSI) were 44% more likely to have been homeless; 29% more likely to have made multiple moves; and 28% more likely to be behind on rent/mortgage,
