Expanding PACE Model Would Benefit Younger High-Need Beneficiaries
The Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) model, which integrates Medicare and Medicaid services for adults ages 55 and older who require a nursing home level of care and provides acute care and long-term service and supports (LTSS), could also be used to address needs of younger individuals. An analysis of five populations that are high need high cost (HNHC) found they would be likely to benefit from integrated care programs such as PACE, if its scope were expanded and if reimbursement rates were appropriately structured to recognize variation in costs.
