Estimated Out-Of-Pocket Health Care Costs For Retired Couples Tops $260,000
Out-of-pocket (OOP) health care costs for a couple entering retirement in 2016 are estimated at $260,000 over the course of their lifetime, about 6% higher than estimated retirement health costs of $245,000 in 2015. The estimate accounts for the costs of traditional Medicare premiums, deductibles, co-payments, and co-insurance; as well as eye glasses, dental care, or over-the counter pharmacy items that are not covered by Medicare. The estimate does not account for costs of long-term care insurance or long-term care service utilization.
