Cost Of Addressing Unmet Need for Depression Treatment Worldwide Estimated At $147 Billion; Productivity Gains Projected At $310 Billion
The worldwide cost of scaling up programs to meet unmet need for depression and anxiety treatment between 2016 and 2030 is estimated at $147 billion; doing so is projected to create benefits of $310 billion, for a return on investment of 2:1. The benefits are in terms of healthy life years, a measure of improved health and greater productivity. The net present value of scaling up depression treatment is estimated at $230 billion. The net present value of scaling up anxiety treatment is estimated at $169 billion.
