Connecticut Plans To Close Training School & Regional Centers & Move Residents To Private Community-Based Settings
The State of Connecticut has announced plans to close the Southbury Training School and many residential facilities for individuals with developmental disabilities and move those residents to community-based settings. The timeline for this change was not stated in the budget adjustment legislation signed in December 2015 that called for the new approach. The budget legislation affects state expenditures for the biennium ending June 30, 2017. In 2014, Connecticut's three regional centers and Southbury Training School housed 534 consumers, and another 340 consumers lived in community living arrangements run by the Department of Developmental Services (DDS).
