On August 31, 2015, the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) informed states about a new permanent option under state Medicaid plan authority to use gross income information from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to support Medicaid income eligibility determinations. The SNAP data can be used for determinations on initial application and for renewal for certain populations.
