CMS Requiring ‘Trauma-Informed’ Nursing Home Services By December 2019
Beginning November 28, 2019, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will require nursing homes to provide trauma-informed care. Nursing homes must have a process to identify residents who have experienced trauma. The resident’s needs must be considered when developing a person-centered care plan. The process must be able to identify residents with acute trauma reactions and those with post-traumatic stress disorder. The care plan should focus on avoiding re-traumatization in care routines and staff interactions.
