CMS Proposes Extending Medicare Episodic Payment For Hip & Knee Replacement For Three Years
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is proposing to extend the Medicare Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) Model by three years to December 31, 2023. The model is currently scheduled to end on December 31, 2020. It launched on April 1, 2016 as an episode payment model for beneficiaries undergoing inpatient hip and knee joint replacements. In addition to extending the model, for certain participant hospitals, the proposed rule changes the model to incorporate outpatient hip and knee joint replacements into the episode of care definition, and changes the target price calculation, the reconciliation process, the beneficiary . . .
