CMS Guidance To State Medicaid Directors Recommends Leveraging Managed Care To Improve Services For Dual Eligibles
On December 19, 2018, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued guidance to state Medicaid directors that listed ten options that states could use to better serve individuals who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid. The guidance emphasized that states can leverage managed care, via existing dual eligible special needs plans (D-SNPs) and Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), to integrate Medicare and Medicaid services. None of the opportunities requires complex demonstrations or Medicare waivers.
