CMS Announces 15-State Expansion For 2019 Medicare Advantage Value-Based Insurance Design Model
On November 22, 2017, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a 15-state extension for the 2019 Medicare Advantage (MA) value-based insurance design (V-BID) model. The expansion will make V-BID operational in 25 states total. The expansion means that MA plans in the expansion states can offer supplemental benefits and eliminate or reduce cost-sharing requirements for condition-related services for members with targeted chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hypertension, coronary artery disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), mood disorders, or a past stroke.
