U.S. Child Obesity Rate Rises To 6%
Between 1999 and 2016, the United States child obesity rate rose significantly. A total of 18.5% of children in 2016 were classified as overweight, 6.0% were classified as Class I obese, 1.9% were classified as Class II obese, and about 0.02% were classified as Class II obese. The increase in the 17-year period was sigficant among African American, Hispanic, and other non-white and non-Asian populations. Children aged 2 to 5 years showed a major increase between 2015 and 2016.
