California Requires Private Payers To Reimburse For Telehealth Services At Parity With Office Services
Starting in January 2021, all commercial health plans in California must reimburse for telehealth services at parity with office visit services under the terms of a bill signed on October 14, 2019. The legislation, California Assembly Bill (AB) 744 of 2019, applies to synchronous and asynchronous telehealth originating-site services. Payers must reimburse physicians on the same basis and to the same extent that the payor reimburses for in-person services.
