Proposed California Medicaid Budget Will Delay Major Initiatives & Eliminate Many Optional Benefits
The California Medicaid program (Medi-Cal) is planning to implement budget changes as part of the state’s effort to address a budget shortfall of $54.3 billion due to the economic impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and public health emergency. The proposed changes include delaying the California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM) Initiative, eliminating the Behavioral Health Quality Improvement Program, and eliminating or modifying optional benefits for adults that it had been planning to restore.
