California Medi-Cal Covers Non-Medical Transportation Benefit
On August 21, 2018, the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services approved California’s State Plan Amendment (SPA 17-017) regarding non-medical transportation (NMT). The approval was retroactive to July 1, 2017. Before the end of 2018, the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), which oversees the state Medicaid program, Medi-Cal, intends to send a beneficiary notice to all eligible fee-for-service (FFS) beneficiaries to inform them of the transportation benefit.
