California’s New Medicaid Addiction Treatment Approach Expands Access
Four California counties (Los Angeles, Marin, Riverside, and Santa Clara) that were among the first to implement the state’s new Medicaid Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System (DMC-ODS) pilot program for addiction treatment reported that the new approach expanded access to treatment and recovery support services, but also created challenges. The counties reported that after implementing the DMC-ODS pilot to expand the Medicaid addiction treatment benefit more funding was available overall to support addiction treatment.
