California Launches New Alternative Non-Residential Services For I/DD Consumers During COVID-19
During coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and until August 30, 2020, the State of California was making retainer payments to provider organizations for consumers with intellectual/developmental disability (I/DD) because the organizations could not operate at full capacity. After the retainer payments were exhausted, on September 1, 2020, the California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) introduced new services—Alternative Non-Residential Services—as an emergency model for consumers with I/DD.
