California Counties Spent 90% Of Mental Health Service Act Funding In 2014
During state fiscal year 2013-2014, California’s counties spent about 90% of the funds allocated for behavioral health services funded through the state’s Mental Health Service Act (MHSA). The counties use the MHSA funding to support expansion of community mental health services within specific components. Of their monthly MHSA funding, counties are required to use 80% for community services and supports (CSS) full service partnerships, general system development, outreach and engagement, and the MHSA housing program.
