Avoidable Hospitalizations For Dual-Eligible Long-Term Care Residents Dropped 31% From 2010-2015
Between 2010 and 2015, the hospitalization rate for six potentially avoidable conditions decreased by 31% for Medicare and Medicaid dually eligible beneficiaries living in long-term care (LTC) facilities. The rate dropped from 227 per 1,000 beneficiaries in 2010 for this population (dual-eligible LTC residents) to 157 per 1,000 beneficiaries in 2015. The six potentially avoidable conditions are bacterial pneumonia, urinary tract infections, congestive heart failure, dehydration, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or asthma, and skin ulcers.
