Arizona’s New Mental Health Parity Law Establishes $8 Million Behavioral Health Fund For Uninsured & Underinsured Children
On March 3, 2020, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey signed mental health parity legislation, Senate Bill 1523 of 2020, “Jake’s Law.” The state now requires insurance companies to cover inpatient and outpatient behavioral health treatment with no greater restrictions than the insurer places on medical and surgical services. The legislation prohibits denials for covered services delivered in an educational setting. It creates an $8 million children’s behavioral health services fund for uninsured and underinsured children.
