Judge Rules Arizona Can Use Videoconference Voting For Those In Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Or With Severe Disabilities
On October 5, 2020, an Arizona judge ruled that election officials can use videoconferencing to assist with voting for those in hospitals, nursing homes, or those with severe disabilities. During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) public health emergency, the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office and Arizona Secretary of State's Office had allowed virtual voting assistance. The practice was opposed by the governor and the state’s Attorney General, the governor said state law requires officials to provide voting assistance in person. The Attorney General said state law does not allow anyone to cast a ballot by video.
